“Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph.”
Joseph and his family enjoyed favor in the eyes of men under the Pharaoh who worked with him. But when a new ruler takes power, Israel no longer benefits from that relationship. It seems as if God’s promise to Jacob will be thwarted- the new Pharaoh has taken power and wants to enslave the numerous men of Israel.
We know that God’s promise ultimately prevails. Despite a transfer of power, God’s plan is sovereign. The leadership of government may impact us, but it doesn’t change God’s plan nor the final outcome. Our trust is in Him and not in men.
Lord, help me to remember that my first allegiance is to You. Rulers can come and go, but it is ultimately Your plan ad message that reign supreme.
